字幕顯示對學習專業課程的影響

Effects of subtitles on learning professional courses

摘要


近年來多媒體科技日新月異,各式各樣的文字、圖片、聲音、及動畫媒體,以影片作為教學工具,逐漸成為趨勢,此教學策略被證實可以提升學生的學習成效。 諸多文獻探討影片字幕對語言學習的影響,並顯示影片字幕對學習語言的聽力理解、學習動機、學習專注力及學習成就有顯著的提升,但鮮少有文獻探討影片字幕對學習專業課程之影響。 本研究探討有無字幕對學生學習專業課程影片之影響,本研究以圖形導向影片(動畫教材)、圖形導向影片(靜態教材)、文字導向影片(單一概念)及文字導向影片(多個概念)四種類型影片進行實驗。實驗結果表明,圖形導向影片(動畫教材)無字幕比有字幕對學生的學習成就有顯著幫助,文字導向影片(多個概念) 有字幕比無字幕對學生的學習成就有顯著幫助,高知識程度學生在圖形導向影片不需要字幕,但在文字導向影片則需要字幕,學生對本實驗的回饋問卷顯示學生因為新奇效應,喜歡有字幕影片。

In recent years, multimedia technology has progressed enormously;witha variety of words, pictures, voices and animated-media, using films as a teaching tool has gradually become a trend, and the teaching strategy has been proved to be able to enhance students’learning performances. A lot of literature has discussed the influence ofsubtitles onlanguage learning, and demonstrated that subtitles have notably improved language listening comprehension, learning motivation, learning focus and learning achievement, but little literature has discussed how subtitles affectprofessional course learning. The purpose of this studyisto investigate howfilms with or without subtitles influencestudents’professional course learning.In thisstudy, weexperimentedwith four kinds of films---graphic-oriented (animated teaching materials), graphic-oriented (staticteaching materials), text-oriented (single concept) and text-oriented (multiple concepts). The experiment result has shownthat in graphic-oriented films(animated teaching materials), the oneswithout subtitles are much more helpful to studentsthan the oneswith subtitles; in the text-oriented films(multiple concepts), the oneswith subtitles are much more helpful to studentsthan the oneswithout subtitles; students with a highlevel of knowledge do not need subtitles in graphic-oriented films, but need them in text-oriented ones; the students’feedback questionnaires have revealedthat they like films with subtitles for novelty effects.
