The research, a discourse approach oriented study, takes to the basis of profiting cartoon role characters, styling culmination and unique cartoon expression forms, coupled with utilizing popular character-based cartoon animations in the U.S., Japan and local cartoon animations, in an attempt to examine the key elements how cartoon expression forms manifest in animation. Thereafter, the theories on the utilization of the traditional cartoon animation characters' styling design, cartoon animation criteria, and cartoon symbolism are applied to propose pertinent assertion and viewpoints on the visual language adopted in cartoon expression forms, and to locate the expression forms for converting cartoon language into animated visual language for summarizing the cartoon language application types in animation production. The introduction of the theoretical premise in animation study is then used to examine the academic theories behind animation.
