Background: An accurate and reliable tool to evaluate patient's perception of CKD knowledge remains lacking in Chinese society. Purpose: To investigate the reliability and validity of the Perceived Kidney Knowledge Survey (PiKS) Chinese version. Methods: We translated the original PiKS into Mandarin Chinese and back-translation was performed by two independent experts. Content and surface validities of the questionnaire were inspected. Chinese version PiKS was administered to 443 patients with CKD to test the internal consistency, retest reliability and construction validity. Results: The content validity index value was .95, while Cronbach's α was .896. The correlation coefficient of the retest reliability was .927 (p ＜ .001). After exploratory factor analysis, the explained variation was 54.98%. Conclusions / Implications for Practice: Our results reflect that PiKS has acceptable reliability and adequate validity. The Chinese version PiKS is a reliable and easily applicable tool for evaluation of patient's perception of CKD knowledge, and can be a powerful tool in improving CKD knowledge and chronic disease self-management.
