This study uses the working standard developed by WMO (World Meteorological Organization) to correct the routine station data and examine the urban heat island effect over the greater Kaohsiung areas. The temperature at each station is corrected using the linear relationship taken by simultaneously measuring 30 readings of the temperature at the same location using the thermometer as well as the shelter. Results indicate that the heat island effect is reduced after the corrections. The spatial and temporal structure also reveals that the location for the maximum temperature is closely related to the land-sea breeze.
