Intensities below a threshold are completely transparent, while the opacity then increases linear to fully opaque at 0 dB. The threshold is determined from a fit of a Rayleigh distribution on the OCT amplitude histogram in a homogenous tissue cube in the epidermal layer, similar to the method described in subsection 3.4, but here with tau=0.99. This threshold is then multiplied with 0.79, which makes the tissue sufficiently transparent to see the sweat duct, but still allows to see high intensity features within the skin, such as the upper interface of the dermal layer. The images illustrate the improved axial resolution for RFIAA as compared to PBW-DFT.
