This study aimed at establishing and validating structural models for the effects of mental health, social support, and life satisfaction on aging in place(AIP) in order to get a complete understanding of the factors affecting AIP in older adults. A total of 219 women of ≥55 years old who lived in potential naturally occurring retirement community(NORC) areas were targeted for the survey. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 23.0. The results were as follows:
Firstly, the correlation between variables showed that mental health has a significant negative correlation with social support and satisfaction in life. In addition, social support showed to have significant static correlations with life satisfaction, AIP, and life satisfaction and AIP also have significant static correlations. Secondly, validating structural equation model showed that mental health directly affected life satisfaction. In addition, mental health was observed to have direct and indirect effects on AIP through life satisfaction. Despite social support did not have a direct impact on life satisfaction, it has a direct impact on AIP. Finally, results showed that life satisfaction has a direct impact on AIP. This can be empirically verifying that the satisfaction of life of an individual who is the subject of life is an important factor affecting the AIP of the elderly.
