본 연구의 목적은 영어토론학습에서 메타버스의 기능적 요소와 대학생 사용자의 학습동기간에 멘토링이 미치는 매개효과에 대해 알아보고 그 교육적인 의미를 도출하는데 있다. 이를 위해 충북의 사립 대학교 대학생들 202명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구에서는 학습자들의 영어 말하기와 쓰기의 향상도를 알아보기 위해 사전, 사후실험을 하여 대응표본 t-test를 통해 확인하였고, 구조방정식을 통한 구조모형 분석(SEM)과 부스트랩 분석을 통해 매개효과의 유의성을 알아보았다. 연구결과, 첫째, 영어토론 메타버스 학습은 학습자의 말하기와 쓰기 영역의 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 메타버스를 활용한 기능적 요소는 사용자 학습동기에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 메타버스 학습 사용자 멘토링 기능은 사용자의 학습동기에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 넷째, 메타버스 학습에서 교육적 기능이 사용자의 학습동기에 미치는 영향에 대해 사용자의 멘토링 기능이 매개효과가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이에 메타버스 영어 학습 설계 시 학습자의 학습동기를 가져오기 위해 흥미유발 디자인, 사용자의 통제 기능, 반응속도 등 기능적 요소가 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 또한 메타버스 학습의 멘토링 기능은 메타버스 영어 학습의 기능과 사용자의 학습동기에 매개효과를 가져왔음을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to identify the mediated effect of mentoring between the functional elements of the metaverse and the learning motivation of college students learning English through debates in that language and to derive the educational implications of the same. A survey was conducted on 202 college students at a private university in Chungbuk. To evaluate the improvement of the English speaking and writing skills of the students, a response sample t-test was used. The significance of the mediated effect was examined using the structural equation model analysis (SEM) and bootstrap analysis by conducting a pre- and post-experiment. The results of the study revealed the following: First, it was discovered that English debate metaverse learning had a positive effect on the improvement of the speaking and writing skills of the students. Second, the analysis showed that the functional elements in the use of metaverse did not influence the learning motivation of users. Third, the metaverse learning user mentoring function was observed to positively influence the learning motivation of users. Fourth, the mentoring function of users was observed to have a mediating effect on the influence of the educational function on the learning motivation of users in metaverse learning. Thus, functional elements, including interest-stimulating design, user control function and the speed of response, influenced the learning motivation of students and should be considered when designing metaverse English learning courses. In addition, the mentoring function of metaverse learning had a mediating effect on the learning motivation of users as well as the metaverse English learning function.
