Conservation of rice terraces that represent the rural landscape are now socially concerned along with the depopulation of the rural areas and the abandonment of those terraced rice fields. Based on these backgrounds, various analyses about the rice terrace landscape will be needed. This study aims to clarify the composition of the rice terrace landscapes in the northern areas of Awaji Island. The study was mainly done by visual analysis of the rice terrace, supplemented by survey evaluation method. The result shows : 1) the 6 types of the rice terrace landscape and its visual characteristics of its composition ; 2) surrounding elements of the rice terrace is very important to terrace landscape 3) the distinctive characteristics in four seasons ; 4) a suggestion for the preservation of the rice terrace landscape.
