Sebepojetí dětí a adolescentů

Radko Obereignerů

The Piers-Harris Children Self-Concept Scale 2 (PHCSCS-2), a psychodiagnostic tool standardized to the Czech population, was published in 2015. It is a 60-item questionnaire that measures self-concept using six scales and the total score. The scales include the following domains: Behavioural Adjustment (BEH), Intellectual and School Status (INT), Physical Appearance and Attributes (PHY), Freedom form Anxiety (FRE), Popularity (POP), and Happiness and Satisfaction (HAP). Through the Total Score (TOT), self-concept can be viewed as a unitary complex. The questionnaire can be useful in the counselling, educational, clinical, and/or research settings, and particularly where a quantitative assessment of the self-concept of children and adolescents needs to be obtained. Because of enough research papers and educational literature, it is increasingly used in the area of forensic practice. The present monograph substantially complements and extends the available information on PHCSCS-2 in the Czech setting. It provides an overview of the terminological and conceptual definition of self-concept as a hypothetical psychological construct from the viewpoint of the leading psychological schools of thought, such as humanistic psychology, depth psychology, cognitive behavioural psychology as well as neuroscience. The concepts of self-concept are framed within the developmental periods covered by the psychodiagnostic tool in question. A review of scientific research papers is presented for both the area of self-concept and self-assessment. Also presented is a review of PHCSCS-2 research for specific populations including, for instance, intellectually gifted children, children with mild mental retardation, children with specific learning disabilities or those with emotional and behavioural disorders, abused children, or children with a chronic disease. On a large sample of 8,111 children and adolescents, a detailed analysis of the internal structure of PHCSCS-2, including the analysis of the five- and six-factor models, confirmatory factor analysis, and analysis of the original structure of PHCSCS-2 were all performed. Moreover, other psychometric parameters were ascertained such as reliability of the original version of the diagnostic tool as well as PHCSCS-2 analysis in relation to other scales (Junior Eysenck Personality Inventory, B-JEPI; Self-assessment of School Succes rate, SPAS) that are available in Czech normative versions and are still being used in applied fields of paediatric psychology. In addition, the results provide new information concerning these methods (e.g. factor model, validation of reliability). By presenting both a theoretical overview and the analyses performed, the authors aim to support the PHCSCS-2 psychodiagnostic tool that, given the extent of its standardization, can be considered unique in the Czech setting. The professional public is provided with detailed information of theoretical nature as well as results of advanced statistical methods.
