The effects of regulative instruments on stakeholders in the German pharmaceutical market

Haustein, Robert

Abstract:

The German Statutory Health Insurance (SHI) system provides medical services for the majority of the German population. Prescription drugs are a large cost driver of the system. Regulative instruments were introduced to reduce the drug expenditures. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effects of the implementation of reference pricing, co-payment exemption and rebate contracts on key parties of the SHI prescription drug market between 2004 and 2007.
