Presentation
Assessment of infertility since 5 years ago. History of pelvic inflammatory disease (Chlamydia trachomatis).
Patient Data
The right fallopian tube presents multiple nodular/diverticular images located in isthmic and ampullary portion, probably related to scars. Peritoneal spill is positive only on the left side.
Case Discussion
Salpingitis isthmica nodosa, also referred to as perisalpingitis isthmica nodosa or diverticulosis of the fallopian tube, refers to nodular scarring of the fallopian tubes. It develops during the reproductive years. The etiology is unknown, but the condition is associated with infertility or subfertility, ectopic pregnancy, and sometimes with PID (as it may be a post inflammatory and/or adenomyosis-like process).
A characteristic finding is multiple nodular/diverticular outpouchings involving the proximal two-thirds of the fallopian tubes.
