Spin crossover and low temperature spin dynamics in In2VO5
Abstract: The one dimensional material In2VO5 contains frustrated zigzag chains of corner sharing V 4+ (S = 1/2) square based pyramids interspersed with sheets of edge sharing InO6 octahedra. No previous reports of the low temperature structural or magnetic properties have been reported. In the paramagnetic regime, our magnetisation measurement show an unusual crossover at 120 K. Above this temperature, the inverse susceptibility obeys the Curie-Weiss law with the expected spin only moment, below 120 K a second linear region occurs with a larger moment. Our magnetisation and heat capacity measurements also show evidence for a spin gap at low temperatures. We propose a muon spin relaxation experiment to confirm whether the system a) does not order, and b) has a non-magnetic ground state. We will also study the magnetisation crossover at 120 K.
