This collection comprises images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in September 2019 at The Old Mill, The Cross, Childswickham, Broadway, Worcestershire. The evaluation was undertaken to support an application for residential development within the site.
Four trenches were excavated. The evaluation identified a number of archaeological features within the site from which a small quantity of dateable artefactual material was retrieved. Two probable medieval drainage ditches and a probable pit of possible post-Roman (Anglo-Saxon) date was also identified.
Although the quantity of dateable material is relatively small, the quantity of fired clay/daub, fragments of iron working waste and the material recovered from the bulk environmental sample are indicative of Roman, Anglo Saxon and/or medieval occupation and/or industrial activity in the area of the site. It is entirely possible that this activity is associated with the mill and/or other activity within the historic core of Childswickham.
