Abstract: |
In July 2015 Cotswold Archaeology was commissioned by Persimmon Homes (Severn Valley) Ltd to carry out Historic Building Recording at Weston Airfield, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset. Weston Airfield is a pre-WWII site that was utilised during the war by the Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd who with Government support bolt a new aircraft factory here to increase capacity and provide resilience in the event that their main factory at Filton in Bristol was damaged by air attack. The objective of the exercise was to ensure that a record of the buildings at the site was made prior to their demolition and the redevelopment of the site for residential purposes. The structures that survive on the site comprise large manufacturing structures, offices, air raid shelters and support structures (boiler rooms, etc.). |
