Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out on engineering test pits and six window samples. Natural sand and gravel was observed at c.2.40 m to 2.80 m below ground level and was capped by 0.20 m to 0.30 m of brown clay. Dump deposits, a brick wall, a floor of Doulton blue engineering bricks and several York stone floors were found, all Post-Medieval in date. The floors may relate to the 'Varnish, Japan and White Lead Works' indicated on the 1871 OS map of the area. |
