Description

The exports of the Brazilian textile sector are of great importance to the world economy, since the country is one of the largest producers of the raw material. This paper aims to analyze the competitiveness of the main Brazilian exporting states in the textile sector. To this end, data were collected from the ComexStat of the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services for the period from 1999 to 2020. These were analyzed using the methodology proposed by Farias and Farias (2018), which uses the export performance matrix relating the results of the Revealed Comparative Advantage (IVCR), Relative Position (IPR) indices and the linear trend of the historical series of the aforementioned indices. The two main exporting states of textile products that are efficient in the production and export of this product, Mato Grosso and Bahia, leaders in the sector in exports in Brazil, exported, in 2020, about 71.86% of the total exported by the country. Thus, it is suggested that public policies be developed to support the growth and development of this sector in the Midwest and Northeast regions of Brazil, since the cotton production chain is already more consolidated in these regions.  In addition to being broad and generating many jobs and income.
