Description

Violence against women and family violence prevails all over the world and the Republic of Moldova is unfortunately not an exception. Violence against women and girls is one of the most systematic and widespread human rights violations worldwide. Both in the Republic of Moldova and in other countries, it affects women regardless of context, culture or socio-economic status, with serious consequences for women, their families and society.
Violence is any harmful, physical or emotional act that takes place between family members and happens when the husband, wife, partner tries to control and impose their power over the woman. He can do it through physical, sexual, emotional or economic abuse. Violence is used to intimidate, humiliate or frighten the victim. This can include a single episode or multiple acts of violence, forming a pattern of abusive behavior through the exercise of control. But it is still necessary to realize that there is a big difference between violence in public spaces, which happens between two strangers, and violence that happens in the private space of the family only between family members. However, Women are part of the category of people who present a high degree of vulnerability, due to their bio- constitutional and psychobehavioral characteristics. Thus women are most often victims of domestic violence.
