Description

The McSAFER project addressed a growing interest in the Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), especially the need for quality and validated computational tools for simulating new specific features such as the helical steam generators. As part of the McSAFER project, recently developed advanced multi-scale/physics methods are applied together with traditional ones to study selected transients of two SMR-designs: NuScale and SMART to better describe the multidimensional thermal hydraulic conditions of integrated RPV. The approach is based on multi-scale domain decomposition by combining different thermal hydraulic codes covering different spatial resolutions of the computational domains. The Work package 4 is focusing on the RPV behavior only, using boundary conditions for other systems. This paper summarizes the work progress for the NuScale reactor for the boron dilution scenario. Each participant independently developed their own computational model based on a common database. A steady-state and transient analysis are performed, and the results are compared and discussed. The future activities of the project will be outlined.
