Description

The series “O Litoral para Crianças” is an adaptation for Portuguese and Portugal of "Coasts for Kids". The original series resulted from a transdisciplinary team effort co-ordinated by Irene Delgado-Fernandez (formerly at Edge Hill University, UK, and currently at University of Cadiz). Project resources were co-created by children, their families, teachers, artists, and coastal scientists in 2021.

In five short episodes, school pupils aged 6-10 explain what the coast is, its dynamics, the various environments that compose it (highlighting those located in the Algarve), how people affect the coast and what can be done to protect it. The videos and their content are freely accessible, which can be watched with or without parental supervision and in an educational context.

The fourth episode (Episódio 4) encourages children to think critically and develop their understanding of human impacts at various temporal and spatial scales, including coastal squeeze, flooding, erosion, and more.
