Ecological benefits of the Cerrado biome and particularities of the municipality of Itapira-SP located in a transition area

Description

The Cerrado biome encompasses a vast region of Brazil and is currently among the tropical ecosystems that have been suffering an accelerated rate of destruction. Many municipalities are in transition areas with other biomes, such as the case of the municipality of Itapira-SP. Thus, this article aimed to describe the ecological benefits of the Cerrado Biome and the particularities observed in the municipality of Itapira-SP, which is located in a transition area between the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado biomes. The research was carried out based on a review of specialized literature and field observation. The results showed that numerous researches and knowledge about this biome have been accumulated, but the application in practical actions compromising it is low. Because Itapira is located in a transition region, tree species that occur in these biomes such as Ipê, Angico, Jatobá, among others, were observed. Another point observed in Itapira was the preservation of water bodies, just as in the Cerrado it houses the springs of the main Brazilian rivers. The environmental preservation of the territory of Itapira has, in a way, contributed to the preservation of the Cerrado Biome, in which actions may encourage other municipalities that are fully included in this biome.
