Description

Alloplasta breviterebra sp. nov.

(Figs 3 A–C)

Holotype: F, JAPAN, Tsushima Is., Nagasaki Pref., Mt. Mitake, 3 May 1989, K. Konishi leg. (NARO).

Description. Female (n = 1). Body length 11.3 mm, polished and covered with punctures and silver setae.

Head 0.6 × as long as wide. Clypeus 2.0 × as broad as high, sparsely punctate, slightly convex in lateral view. Face 2.0 × as broad as high, densely punctate (Fig. 3 B), convex medially in lateral view. Malar space 0.3 × as long as basal mandibular width. POL 1.4 × as long as OD. OOL 1.1 × as long as OD. Vertex with long setae, ca. 2.0 × as height as lateral ocellus in lateral view. Antenna with 34 flagellomeres. FL I 4.0 × as long as maximum depth in lateral view and 1.7 × as long as FL II.

Mesosoma densely punctate. Epomia absent. Speculum with a conspicuous smooth area. Mesosternum with long and dense setae, ca. 1.0 × as long as maximum depth of FL I in lateral view. Propodeum with a complete posterior transverse carina (Fig. 3 C). Fore wing length 9.6 mm. Areolet received vein 2m-cu slightly distant (ca. width of 2m-cu) of the outer angle (Fig. 3 A). Nervellus intercepted at middle. Hind femur 6.0 × as long as maximum depth in lateral view. Ratio of length of hind first to fifth tarsomeres 4.2: 2.0: 1.4: 0.8: 0.9. Hind second tarsomere 4.4 × as long as maximum depth in lateral view.

Metasoma. T I 1.8 × as long as maximum width, punctate except for smooth areas on apex and base, obliquely rugulose medially. T II 0.88 × as long as maximum width. T II to T V finely punctate and covered with minute transverse striae. Ovipositor sheath 0.88 × as long as hind tibia.

Coloration (Figs 3 A–C). Body (excluding wings and legs) black. Clypeus yellowish brown except for dorsal margin. Teeth of mandible reddish brown. Palpi blackish brown except small apical yellow area of maxillary palpus. Tegula yellowish brown. Each posterior margin of T II to T VI narrowly tinged with reddish brown to yellowish brown. Ovipositor reddish brown. Wings hyaline. Veins and pterostigma blackish-brown except for yellowishbrown wing base. Coxae, trochanters and trochantelli black except for yellowish brown apical margin of each trochanter. Fore and mid femur reddish brown. Hind femur blackish brown except for yellowish brown base and apex. Tibiae yellowish brown to blackish brown except for each white base. Tibial spurs and tarsi whitish yellow except for hind first tarsomere.

Male. Unknown.

Distribution. Japan (Tsushima Is.).

Bionomics. Unknown. Adult was collected in May.

Etymology. The species name is derived from the Latin “brevis + terebra”, meaning short ovipositor. This species has short ovipositor in the genus.

Remarks. This species resembles A. plantaria but can be distinguished from the latter by the length of hind TS II 4.4 × as long as maximum width (3.0–4.0 in A. plantaria), the ovipositor shorter than ovipositor sheath (longer than ovipositor sheath in A. plantaria) and the mesoscutum without yellow markings (with a pair of yellow markings in A. plantaria).
