Taxonomy. Callicebus hoffmannsi Thomas, 1908,

Urucurituba on the left (west) bank of the Rio Tapajos in the Brazilian state of Para.

The range of C. hoffmannsi is probably in contact, or intergrades, with that of C. cinerascens in the upper Rio Abacaxis area. C. hoffmannsi is a member of the C. moloch species group. Monotypic.

Distribution. Brazilian Amazon Basin, in the Solimoes-Tapajos interfluvium, S of the Canuma, Uraria, and Ramos channels (“paranas”), which form the S limit of the distribution of the Lake Baptista Titi (C. baptista); the distribution is limited to the W by the Rio Abacaxis.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 28-36 cm (males) and 27-35 cm (females), tail 40-53 cm (males) and 42-51 cm (females); weight 920-1100 g. Body of Hoffmanns’s Titi is chestnut-brown above, with an orange-red underside that extends to inner surfaces of limbs, hands, feet, cheeks, and chin. Crown is gray, outer limbs are grayish-brown, and face is black. Tail is black, sometimes with a whitish tip.

Habitat. Swamp forests and terra firma forest.

Food and Feeding. There is no information available for this species.

Breeding. There is no specific information for this species, but all titis form monogamous breeding pairs. The male provides parental care by carrying the single offspring.

Activity patterns. There is no information available for this species.

Movements, Home range and Social organization. There is no information available for this species.

Status and Conservation. CITES Appendix II. Classified as Least Concern on The [UCN Red List. Hoffmanns’s Titi is relatively well protected by the isolation of its geographic distribution. It is present in Amazonia National Park and Itaituba National Forest.
