Climbing shrub. Flowers clustered in leaf axils or arranged in a terminal spike, unisexual; perianth lobes 5, persistent in fruit; ovary globose; stigmas 2. Fruit a spongy berry; seeds vertical; embryo annular; radicle centrifugal. One sp., H tweedii (Moq.) Hicken ex Speg.,

Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina.
