Description

Family Molannidae

The Holarctic and Oriental genus Molanna includes 2 fossil, 22 extant species and 2 subspecies (Morse 2001). Three Molanna species were known from the Russian Far East: M. albicans (Zetterstedt 1840), M. submarginalis McLachlan, 1872 and M. moesta Banks, 1906 (Arefina 1997). A 4th species, M. byssa n. sp., consistent with morphological characters of the genus, was collected from the Byssa River at Fevralsk Town. This river is also a left tributary of the Selemdja River. The specimens were collected by net while sweeping riparian vegetation during the day.
