Chrysaora Peron & Lesueur 1810

Description

Genus Chrysaora Péron & Lesueur, 1810

Pelagiidae with eight rhopalia; with one, three or more tentacles between adjacent pairs of sense organs (that is, within each octant); with 16 radial gastrovascular pouches, the eight rhopalar pouches being narrower than the inter­rhopalar (tentacular) ones; with deep rhopalial pits on exumbrella; radial septa terminating near tentacle base; ephyrae with clusters of nematocysts on each side of the rhopalium (Mayer, 1910; Kramp, 1961; Russell, 1970; Mianzan and Cornelius, 1999; Gershwin and Collins, 2002). Scyphistoma typical of Semaeostomeae, usually with 16 tentacles, four septa dividing the gastrovascular cavity, and with long calyx and short peduncle.
