Pipunculus dimi Kuznetzov, 1991: 12

Material: Italy, Vallombrosa: 1Ψ (paratype), 25.VI.1908, Oldenberg (DEI); Finland, N, Borgå, Borgbacken, 6699:425: 1Ψ, 23.VI.1990, Albrecht; Finland, N, Borgå Ik, Kullo, 669:41: 1Ψ, 3.VII.1985, Albrecht; Finland, N, Sibbo, Nevas, 6687:412: 1ɗ, 15.–21.VI.1986; 1ɗ 2Ψ, 22.–28.VI.1986, (1ɗ 1Ψ PCCK); 1Ψ, 29.VI.– 4.VII.1986, Albrecht.

Male: Body length: about 4.5–4.8mm (abdomen dissected). Wing length: 5.5–5.6mm. Flagellum mid brown. Frons grey pollinose. Occiput grey pollinose except posterior to ocellar triangle brown pollinose. Eyes meeting for about length of frons or slightly less (15 facets). Postpronotal lobe dark brown. Prescutum and scutum narrowly grey pollinose along anterior margin, laterally down to wing base, otherwise brown pollinose. Pleura grey pollinose. Scutellum with apical fringe of about 12 evenly spaced hairs. Subscutellum grey pollinose. LTC about 1.0 times LFC. Trochanter yellow. Femur with base and apex narrowly yellow. Hind femur hardly concave in ventrobasal half (as in Fig. 83). Tibia yellow, darkened ventroapically. Tarsi yellow with distitarsi darkest. Pulvilli of front legs slightly longer than distitarsi. Tergite 1 laterally grey, tergites 2–5 anterolaterally brown and posterolaterally grey pollinose. Dorsally, tergite 2 in anterior three quarters, tergite 3 in anterior half, tergite 4 in anterior third and tergite 5 narrowly along posterior margin with brown pollinosity, otherwise shining. Membranous area key-hole shaped. Surstyli symmetrical (Figs 32–33). All three ejaculatory ducts equally sclerotized in distal half.

Female: Body length: 4.0– 4.9mm. Wing length: 4.2–5.0mm. Flagellum clear or dark yellow. Frons entirely grey pollinose. Postpronotal lobe dark yellow. Prescutum and scutum grey pollinose in anterior third and narrowly along posterior margin, centrally (or posterolaterally in paratype) with brown pollinosity. Pleura and subscutellum grey pollinose. LTC about 0.8–1.1 times LFC. Trochanter, base and apex of femur narrowly bright yellow. Tibia yellow, darkened ventromedially. Tarsal segments yellowish with distitarsi darkened. Pulvilli of fore leg 1.4–2.0 length of distitarsi and slightly broader. Tergite 1 anterodorsally brown, otherwise grey pollinose. Tergites 2–6 laterally grey pollinose. Dorsally, tergite 2 grey to greyish-brown pollinose except narrow posterior shining stripe. Tergites 3–6 dorsally shining but tergite 3 can show some weak brown pollinosity anterodorsally. Ovipositor with dark base and yellow straight piercer (can be slightly longer than figured here), its ventral transition being smooth or with a weak bulb (Fig. 63).

Annotations: The description is based on four females, collected in Latvia and Italy. De Meyer et al. (1996) state that the locality Vallombrosa is a town near Firenze and not located in Switzerland as mentioned by Kuznetzov (1991). One of the Finnish specimens has an aberrant wing venation with cell r4+ 5 in left wing narrowly closed, i.e., veins R4+5 and M1 fusing shortly before wing margin. In the right wing, the veins are touching shortly before margin but do not merge together.
