Education and Identity
Description
The two concepts define a different reality in terms of reflected content and type of knowledge, promoted epistemologically. Their association requires highlighting their specific dimensions, pedagogical and psychological, as approached from a distinct as well as complimentary perspective. Pedagogically, the connection between education and identity highlights the importance of the formation/self-formation of a learner’s (student’s) self-consciousness, as the pedagogical and psychological premise for achieving the qualitative leap from education to self-education – the main direction of education development in postmodern (contemporary) knowledge-based society.
