Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition that refers to the type locality of the holotype.

Diagnosis. Scytodes chapeco n.sp. is distinguished from the remaining Neotropical Scytodes by truncated and bifid distal area of the male palpal bulb (Figs. 142, 144) and by the inconspicuous positioning ridges in the female epigynum (Fig. 145).

Description. Male (Holotype, IBSP 91945). Carapace orange with brown pattern as shown on Fig. 141. Chelicerae pale yellow with longitudinal brown stripe. Pedipalps yellow. Palpal tibiae with longitudinal, prolateral brown stripe. Labium orange with brown margins and large brown mark at base. Endites pale yellow. Sternum pale yellow with brown markings in front of each coxae, extending towards the center. Legs yellow, except patella I brown. Femora I-IV with pair of ventral, longitudinal brown stripes. Tibiae I-IV with transversal median brown stain. Abdomen pale yellow with black pattern (Fig. 141). Total length 3.0. Carapace slightly domed, 1.7 long, 1.4 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.10, ALE 0.12, PLE 0.12. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and inconspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.10 long, 0.18 wide. Sternum 0.94 long, 0.76 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 3.0, patella 0.4, tibia 3.3, metatarsus 3.8, tarsus 0.6, total 11.1; II: 2.2, 0.4, 2.3, 2.4, 0.5, 7.8; III: 1.4, 0.4, 1.3, 1.4, 0.4, 4.9; IV: 2.1, 0.4, 1.9, 2.0, 0.6, 7.0. Palpal femur with short and stout stridulatory pick with rounded and projected socket. Cymbium with single strong distal spine (Fig. 142). Bulb 0.82 long, medially constricted and slightly bent, forming a small dorsal hump (Figs. 142–143). Distal region truncated and bifid with a long retrolateral sclerotized process (Figs. 142–144). Abdomen 1.3 long, 1.4 wide, covered with slender hairs.

Female (Paratype, MZSP 7665). Coloration pattern as in male. Total length 5.1. Carapace domed, 2.3 long, 2.0 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.16, ALE 0.14, PLE 0.16. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae as in male. Labium 0.20 long, 0.22 wide. Sternum 1.26 long, 0.94 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 3.1, patella 0.6, tibia 3.4, metatarsus 4.2, tarsus 0.7, total 12.0; II: 2.4, 0.6, 2.4, 2.9, 0.6, 8.9; III: 1.7, 0.6, 1.4, 1.8, 0.5, 6.0; IV: 2.3, 0.6, 2.2, 2.5, 0.6, 8.2. Palpal femur as in male. Epigynum with inconspicuous positioning ridges (Fig. 145). Vulva with slightly oval spermathecae on short and narrow stalks, adjacent to large oval hyaline pockets, partially fused at base, with no conspicuous sclerotized area (Fig. 146). Abdomen 2.8 long, 2.3 wide, as in male.

Variation. Ten males: total length 3.5–5.9; carapace 2.0–2.6; femur I 4.6–5.7; bulb 0.58–0.82. Ten females: total length 4.5–5.1; carapace 2.1–2.4; femur I 3.0–3.7.

Distribution. Atlantic Forest. Known from the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina e Rio Grande do Sul.
