Sorolopha rubescens Diakonoff 1973

Description

14. Sorolopha rubescens Diakonoff, 1973

(Figs. 4, 8, 11)

Sorolopha rubescens Diakonoff, 1973: 70, fig. 108 (3 genit., Indonesia: Moluccan Island)

Sorolopha chlorotica Liu & Bai, 1985: 136, figs. 2, 10 (adult, 3 genit., China: Yunnan). syn. nov.

Diagnosis. This species is very similar to S. chlorotica Liu & Bai, 1985 in the following characters of the male genitalia: the uncus prominent; the socius long, clavate and densely bristled apically; the valva slender, the sacculus carrying two groups of spines at 1/4 and 2/3 length; the cucullus protruding ventrally in middle, forming a pointed triangular prominence which is slender and rounded distally and carries a line of long thorns; and the aedeagus gently curved. Externally this species differs from S. chlorotica in the color of the basal patch, which is dark fuscous in S. rubescens and indistinct in S. chlorotica. However, according to Diakonoff (1973), the holotype of S. rubescens is rather rubbed, so we believe the two species are conspecific. Sorolopha chlorotica is a synonym of S. rubescens, and the difference in appearance between the two species could be ignored.

Kawabe et al. (1992) recorded this species from Taiwan, China. Liu & Li (2002) described the female of S. chlorotica (= S. rubescens), which is characterized by having a V-shaped sterigma and two small, rounded and granulated signa.
