Maxillary palpus very short, indistinct with gray white scales. Labial palpus 2.0 x height of head, second segment with dense white scales mesally, dark gray scales laterally; 0–2 black lateral bristles. Thorax: Dorsally covered with dense white scales, except tegula smooth with anterior margin black. Foreleg black; midleg fuscous, covered with fuscous scales except tibiae white; hindleg covered with white scales mixed with gray scales; hind tibiae bearing long, pale brown hairs. Forewing length 7.5–9.0 mm, forewing elongate, rounded apically, about 3.1–3.3 x as long as wide including fringes (about 3.1–3.2 x as long as wide excluding fringes); ground color black except termen and posterior margin irregularly edged white mixed with black spots, an interrupted white transverse band at basal 1/5 of wing, three white markings at costa 2/5, 3/5 and 4/5 from base, diminshing in size distally. Fringe short, black in apical region, long at termen, consisting of white scales mixed with black; all veins present and separate, R1 arising from 1/3 of discal cell; R5 extending to termen near apex; 1A+2A 2.5 x as long as 1A; chorda present, extending to crossvein R-M; retinaculum elongate, curled at apex (Fig. 3 A, B). Hindwing relatively elongate, rounded apically, 1.8–1.9 x as long as wide including fringe (2.5–2.6 x as long as wide excluding fringe); ground color brownish gray mixed with broad and narrow scales, except basal 3/4 of costa with white slender scales; fringe short, consisting of white to gray scales; crossvein M-CuA present, M branched in discal cell (Fig. 3 A, B). Abdomen: Dorsally grayish brown, heavily irrorated with glassy light gray scales; ventral with grayish. Male genitalia (Fig. 5) with uncus complex, consisting of 4 distinct sclerotized lobes, dl swollen, large, densely covered with minute knobs, mammilla-shaped in lateral view; ll rectangular in dorsal view, fused with dl; al small, bearing spinules dorsally; vl larger, palm-shaped, slightly sclerotized. Tegumen emerginate at middle of anterior margin, with subdorsal membranous areas posteriorly; vinculum circular at anterior margin in ventral view. Valva strongly tapered with a basal process, slightly curved inward without median keel; inner surface with a longitudinal protuberance bearing long thick bristles; transtilla flap-shaped, strongly sclerotized, fused at anellus. Juxta absent. Aedeagus about 1.0 x length of valve, slightly curved ventrally, inflated basally; cornuti absent.

Female. Head and Thorax: Similar to male, but slightly larger (i.e., forewing length 8.0–10.0 mm) and antenna filiform (length ca. 3.5–4.5 mm). Abdomen: Female genitalia (Fig. 10) with seventh segment bearing long, dense hairs, covering genitalia. Eighth tergum weakly sclerotized anteriorly, with setulae; anterior margin laterally covered with long bristles; sternum weakly sclerotized with strongly sclerotized, quadrate, shield-shaped area from near antrum; posterior margin with a triangular shield-shaped area, strongly sclerotized and covered with dense setulae; narrow plates extending from base of apophysis anterioris, each ending at anterior and posterior shield of 8th sternum. Colliculum tubular, strongly sclerotized. Ovipositor long, with setae of papilla analis apically swollen and truncate. Corpus bursae ellipsoidal, without signum.

Distribution. Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu).

Remarks. This species is widely distributed in Japan. Specimens collected in Hokkaido, where this species was first reported by Sakai (2002), were not available for examination. We examined the type specimen deposited in the BMNH (genitalia slide 13355).
