Description

Telmatoscopus micropilosus Bravo, Santos & Ferreira, sp. nov.

(Figs. 9–12)

Type material. BRAZIL, Espírito Santo, município de Cariacica, Represa Duas Bocas, 07.X.2005, Santos, C.B. col., holotype male (MZUEFS).

Etymology. The epithet micropilosus refers to the hypandrium micropilosity.

Diagnosis. Vertex with small, medial and basal area without scars; hair patch of frons undivided, with patch of scars extending to upper eye margin nearly to suture; longitudinal veins without medial or apical enlargements; hypandrium hemicircular with dorsal micropilosity; cercus with 16–18 apical tenacula.

Description. Holotype male. Head (Fig. 9). Eye bridge with 4 facet rows, separated by 2.0 facet diameters; interocular suture present, incomplete, inverted, nearly V-shaped; hair patch of frons undivided, with patch of scars extending to upper eye margin, nearly to suture. Antenna incomplete, scape cylindrical 1.6 times as long as pedicel; pedicel spherical; flagellomeres lost. Palpus formula = 1.0:1.6:1.6:2.1, last palpomere striated (Fig. 10).

Wing (Fig. 11). Longitudinal veins without medial or apical enlargements; radial and medial forks on about the same level; R2+3 incomplete; R4 ending at apex; R5 ending beyond the wing apex.

Male terminalia (Fig. 12). Epandrium fused to hypandrium. Epandrium rectangular, distal margin straight; foramina not observed. Cercus pilose, approximately the same length as gonostylus, slightly curved; left cercus with 16 apical tenacula, right cercus with 18. Tergite 10 smaller than sternite 10. Hypandrium hemicircular with dorsal micropilosity. Gonocoxite pilose, approximately 0.5 times as long as length of gonostylus. Gonostylus pilose, with dorsal patch of scars at base. Sternite 10 subtriangular apically, with apical micropilosity. Aedeagus symmetrical, bifid, longer than parameres, with apex bifurcated, internal arm smaller than external arm. Aedeagal apodeme 2.5 times as long as length of aedeagus. Two structures lateral to aedeagus, the parameres, with pointed apices.

Female. Unknown.
