Gymnetron moroderi Reitter 1906

Description

Gymnetron moroderi Reitter, 1906

Reitter (1906) described this taxon from specimens collected at Valencia (Spain). We examined two syntypes of this species at HNHM, which are labelled “Valencia, Hispania / Paratypus 1906, Gymnetron Moroderi Reitter / Coll. Reitter” (female, lectotype here designated) and “Valencia, Hispania / Holotypus 1906, Gymnetron Moroderi Reitter /Coll. Reitter” (male, paralectotype). They are very similar to the lectotype of R. tetra from which they differ by the small size (2.5 mm vs. 3.5 mm). Whereas the males of both taxa do not differ substantially by other characters, including genitalia, the females differ distinctly by the shape of the rostrum.
