Type locality. Red Bluff, Kalbarri, Western Australia (27°42’S 114°09’E).

Etymology. Named in honour of the collector, Roger T. Springthorpe.

Diagnosis. Antenna 1 similar to antenna 2; article 1 with 3 robust setae; accessory flagellum 6-articulate. Mandible accessory setal row with 7 robust setae. Lower lip outer plates weakly notched, without apical ducts, mandibular lobes, recurved, apically rounded. Maxilla 1 inner plate with 5 slender setae; outer plate palp slender, with 5 robust setae. Gnathopod 1 larger in size to gnathopod 2; coxa 1 anterior margin concave, anteroventral corner produced, acute; basis lined with slender setae, with single anterodistal lobe large, rounded, extending to end of ischium with 5 slender setae; ischiumanterior margin without lobe; propodus subtriangular, palm subacute, deeply excavate. Gnathopod 2 basis subequal in length to coxa, with single anterodistal lobe rounded, not reaching beyond ischium, with 8 slender setae; ischium anterior margin with lobe; carpus and propodus anterior margin lined with rows of slender setae; propodus anterodistal corner with produced lobe, palm subacute, excavate define by subquadrate corner with 1 robust seta, palm length 0.4 posterior margin. Telson subtrapezoidal, apically subacute, rows of lateral and oblique slender setae.

Description of holotype. Head. Antenna 1 damaged, similar to antenna 2; article 1 with 3 robust setae; accessory flagellum 6-articulate. Antenna 2 damaged. Mandible accessory setal row with 7 robust setae; palp 3- articulate, slender; article 2 without slender setae; article 3 long, length 5 times width. Lower lip outer plates weakly notched, without apical ducts, mandibular lobes, recurved, apically rounded. Maxilla 1 inner plate with 5 slender setae; palp slender, with 5 robust setae.

Pereon. Coxae 1–4 longer than broad. Gnathopod 1 larger in size to gnathopod 2; coxa 1 larger than coxa 2, anterior margin concave, anteroventral corner produced, acute; basis subequal in length to coxa, lined with slender setae, with single anterodistal lobe large, rounded, extending to end of ischium with 5 slender setae; ischium anterior margin without lobe; merus anterodistal corners acute; carpus subtriangular, length 1.9 times width, 0.8 times propodus length; propodus subtriangular, length 1.9 times width, palm subacute, deeply excavate, defined by produced subquadrate corner with 1 robust seta, palm length 0.6 posterior margin; dactylus subequal in length to palm, apically acute, tapering evenly, inner margin crenate. Gnathopod 2 basis subequal in length to coxa, with single anterodistal lobe rounded, not reaching beyond ischium, with 8 slender setae; ischium anterior margin with lobe; merus anterodistal corners acute; carpus subtriangular, length 1.5 times width, 0.9 times propodus length, anterior margin lined with rows of slender setae; propodus subrectangular, length 1.5 times width, anterior margin lined with rows of slender setae, anterodistal corner with produced lobe, palm subacute, concave define by subquadrate corner with 1 robust seta, palm length 0.4 posterior margin; dactylus subequal in length to palm, apically acute, tapering evenly, inner margin crenate.

Pleon. Epimeron 1 rounded, posterior margin convex, posterodistal corner rounded. Epimera 2–3 subquadrate, posterior margin weakly convex, posterodistal corner with small acute tooth. Uropod 1 long, reaching end of uropod 2 rami; peduncle length twice width, with 8 robust setae, with large, acute distoventral spine; inner ramus 1.2 times peduncle length, subequal to outer ramus, with 8 marginal robust setae; outer ramus length 5 times width, with 11 marginal robust setae. Uropod 2 peduncle with small distoventral spine, with 3 robust setae; inner ramus longer than outer ramus, with 5 marginal robust setae; outer ramus with 8 marginal robust setae. Uropod 3 peduncle length 1.1 times width, 1.8 times rami length, with 2 marginal robust setae, 6 distal robust setae; inner ramus length twice breadth, with 4 distal robust setae, 6 distal slender setae and 2 lateral robust setae; outer ramus with 1 large and 1 small recurved distal robust setae, with two robust and 7 slender marginal setae. Telson subtrapezoidal, apically subacute, with small apical cusps, 2 pairs of lateral plumose setae and rows of lateral and oblique slender setae.

Remarks. The gnathopod 1 propodus with excavate palm aligns P. springthorpei sp. nov. with P. apoorei sp. nov., P. dongara sp. nov., and P. dwyeri sp. nov. Paragrubia springthorpei sp. nov. has the gnathopod 1 propodus anterodistal corner with produced lobe, separating it from the latter species and can be further distinguished by the gnathopod 2 carpus and propodus with rows of slender setae along the anterior margin.

Distribution. Western Australia: Kalbarri (current study).
