Cephennium

Description

Cephennium (s. str.) ivanjicense sp. n.

(Figs. 31–34)

Type material studied. (2 ♂) Holotype: SERBIA: ♂, ” Srbija, Ivanjica, Mucina voda, 900 m, 0 7.04.2005, leg. D. Pavićević“ (w, p) / ” HOLOTYPUS, Cephennium (s. str.) ivanjicense sp. n., det. M. Stevanović 2006.“ (r, p) (MSNS). Paratypes: (1 ♂): same data as holotype / ” PARATYPUS, Cephennium (s. str.) ivanjicense sp. n., det. M. Stevanović 2006“ (r, p) (DPBS).

Diagnosis. Pronotum subrectangular; in males metaventrite with shallow oval impression and metaventral process about 1/4 of maximum metaventral width, posteromesal margin straight; lateral projections about 1.5 times longer than broad; protibiae broadest at apices; aedeagus in lateral view with parameres strongly broadened in basal half, in ventral view with subtriangular apical part.

Description. Male. Body length 1.34–1.39 mm, moderately convex; pronotum, legs and mandibles reddishbrown; elytra brown, tarsi and mouth parts yellowish, setation yellowish.

Head broadest across moderately small eyes; length 0.14–0.17 mm, width 0.25–0.28 mm; frontoclypeal region subtrapezoidal, slightly convex; vertex flat; supraantennal tubercles weakly raised. Frontoclypeal region without puncturation, puncturation on vertex fine, very sparse, setation moderately short, suberect. Length of antennae 0.56–0.59 mm; antennomere I subcylindrical, 1.5 times as long as broad, II subcylindrical, 1.3 times as long as broad, antennomeres III–V slightly longer than broad, VI subquadrate, narrower than VII, VII subcylindrical, 1.2 times longer than broad, VIII ovoid, narrower than VII, IX transverse, 1.1 times as broad as long, X transverse, 1.3 times as broad as long, XI subconical, 1.4 times as long as broad.

Pronotum subrectangular, slightly convex, widest at anterior third, length 0.40–0.41 mm, width 0.51–0.53 mm, with broadly rounded anterior margin, posterior margin weakly biemarginate. Lateral carina well-marked, microserrate, sides weakly rounded in anterior third, posterior corners almost right. Puncturation very fine, moderately dense, composed of very small and shallow punctures; setation moderately long, suberect to erect.

Elytra oval, elongate, moderately convex, length 0.80–0.81 mm, width 0.53–0.55 mm, EI 1.47–1.51; widest slightly anterior to middle; apical margins of elytra almost straight. Each elytron with single basal fovea located in middle between humerus and scutellum; humeral carina as long as 1/10 of elytral length. Puncturation fine, punctures shallow, distance between punctures 1.1–1.6 times of their diameter. Setation moderately long, suberect to erect.

Metaventrite with shallow oval impression, very sparsely punctured, distance between punctures 2.0–3.0 times of their diameter with moderately short and suberect setation; metaventral process as broad as 1/4 of maximum metaventral width, posteromesal margin straight; lateral projections about 1.5 times longer than broad, apex of each forming sharp angle with pointed tip.

Aedeagus (Figs. 31–32) length 0.34–0.35 mm, in ventral view with subtriangular apical part, in lateral view with parameres strongly broadened in basal half and with long apical seta; endophallus as in Fig. 33, elongated.

Legs moderately long and slender; protibiae as in Fig.34 broadest at apices.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Western Serbia.

Etymology. Locotypic, named after a small town Ivanjica.

Remarks. This new species is similar to C. carnicum Reitter 1882, but it can be distinguished by the following combination of characters: 1) the body is longer, in C. carnicum the body length is 1.1–1.2 mm, 2) the aedeagus is slightly longer, in C. carnicum the aedeagus length 0.29–0.33 mm and 3) a different structure of the endophallus (see Franz & Besuchet 1971: 277).
