Description

Key to species of the genus Monarea

1. Fore wings mainly dark, black (Fig. 2). Hind mesopleural suture coarsely crenulate................................ 2

2. Pterostigma entirely black (Fig. 18). Mesopleuron red (Fig. 10). Transverse diameter of female eye 1.3 times longer than temple (Fig. 4). Malar space 0.5 times basal width of mandible (Fig. 5). Second metasomal tergite longer, 0.8 times as long as its basal width. Ovipositor sheath distinctly shorter than body. - Pterostigma entirely pale yellow. Mesopleuron black. Transverse diameter of female eye almost equal to temple length. Malar space more than 0.5 times basal width of mandible. Second metasomal tergite shorter, 0.6 times as long as its basal width. Ovipositor sheath usually as long as body. Body length 13.0–18.0 mm. — Brazil, Peru............ M. tripartita (Brullé) (♀♂)

3. First metasomal tergite shorter, 1.5–1.6 times longer than apical width. Longitudinal furrows on second tergite evenly roundly curvedly and less distinctly convergent towards second suture. - First metasomal tergite longer, 2.0–2.6 times longer than apical width. Longitudinal furrows on second tergite less evenly, not curvedly and distinctly convergent towards second suture.
