(1 genus, 3 species, 1 endemic species)

Hyalinobatrachium Ruíz-Carranza & Lynch 1991, 23 (3 species, 1 endemic species)

Hyalinobatrachium chirripoi (Taylor 1958, 59)

Hyalinobatrachium crybetes (E) (McCranie & Wilson 1997, 13). Cisneros-Heredia & McDiarmid (2007) synonymized this species with H. colymbiphyllum (Taylor 1949 [262]), but without examining specimens of H. crybetes. Cisneros-Heredia & McDiarmid (2007) based their decision on the fact that two important diagnostic characters used by McCranie & Wilson are known to occur separately in some populations of the closely related H. fleischmanni. However, Cisneros-Heredia & McDiarmid (2007) did not mention that both of those characters have apparently not been previously reported in the same specimens and that they occur sympatrically with H. fleischmanni. Tissues are needed from H. crybetes for molecular studies. Unfortunately, two attempts (August 1997, July 2010) to collect new specimens were aborted because of heavy late afternoon rainfalls that made crossing the river in the vicinity of the type locality too dangerous. I continue to recognize H. crybetes as a distinct species until tissues can be studied. In addition, genetic and call data of H. cardiacalyptum McCranie & Wilson (1997 [p. 11]), which was synonymized with H. chirripoi by Cisneros-Heredia & McDiarmid (2007), are available for comparison with H. chirripoi should those data become available from Costa Rican populations of that species.

Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni (Boettger 1893, 251)
