Chimoptesis phanera, sp. n.

Diagnosis. Chimoptesis phanera is related to C. costaricae, but C. phanera can be distinguished by the concave posterior edge of the dorsal part of the postbasal fascia, the broad postostial sterigma, and the larger signa.

Description. Wing span 19 mm. Male: Unknown. Female: Head and thorax cream white, labial palpus marked brownish laterally. Forewing as in costaricae. Ground colour white, cream in costal area, suffused blackish brown in apical part; costal strigulae indistinct, divisions slender, brownish. Markings brown in form of postbasal blotch, incomplete median fascia, and apical marking. Cilia brownish, whitish at tornus. Hindwing white cream, suffused brownish in distal third; cilia brownish cream, whitish in anal area. Genitalia (Fig. 14) with postostial sterigma broad, almost straight in middle posteriorly; antrum sclerite moderately broad, uniformly broad except for posterior part; cingulum approximately as long as proximal, membranous part of ductus bursae; signa equal in size, large.

Holotype female: " Mexico: Chiapas, San Cristobal de las Casas, 2300 m, 23–27.VI.1981, V.O. Becker Col; Col. Becker 43779"; GS 852 WZ.

Etymology. The name refers to the distinct colouration of the forewings; Greek: phaneros—visible.
