Reikosiella (Hirticauda) bekilyi Risbec, n. comb.

Description

Reikosiella (Hirticauda) bekilyi (Risbec) n. comb.

Figs. 120–123

Macreupelmus bekilyi Risbec, 1952: 126 –127.

Type material. A single female in MNHN labelled: MADAGASCAR | BEKILY | RÉG. SUDDE L’ILE / MUSÉM PARIS | IX.38 | A. SEYRIG / Holotype [red label] / Macreupelmus bekilyi Risbec [handwritten].

Although Risbec (1952) did not state the number of specimens or the collecting date (other descriptions in the same paper do mention these), he gave a single body length. This indicates a single specimen and I therefore interpret the type in MNHN (Figs 120–123) as the holotype. It is contorted, mounted by a minutien pin through its mesosoma between the mesonotum and acropleuron at the base of the metanotum, and lacks it gaster, right antenna beyond fl2, left antenna beyond fl1 (Fig. 122), and right hind leg beyond the coxa.

MAP 1. Collections records for Macreupelmus species (number given in any country indicates number of site records represented by closely set symbols).

Remarks. Although its gaster is missing, the holotype of Macreupelmus bekilyi is assigned to Reikosiella Yoshimoto based on, among other features, the lack of a mesotibial apical groove (Fig. 123), comparatively long fore wing marginal vein (Fig. 121), ∩-like scrobal depression that extends to the inner orbits (Fig. 122), and subbasally compressed scape. Further, it is a member of Reikosiella (Hirticauda Bouček) based on the presence of a row of mesotibial apical pegs (Fig. 123), dorsellum apically recurved, cup-like, over apex of scutellum, and acropleural sulcus posteriorly sinuately curved so that a slender mesepisternum is differentiated between the acropleuron and mesocoxa (see Gibson 1995). Based on these features I hereby transfer Macreupelmus bekilyi to Reikosiella as R. (Hirticauda) bekilyi (Risbec) n. comb. According to the original description the antennae were entirely dark, without some white funiculars, unlike many species of the subgenus from the region. The fore wing is bifasciate (Fig. 121).
