Symmorphus truncatoclypeus Kim sp. nov.

Type specimens. Holotype. ♀, pinned. Original label: “Mt. Gayasan, Daegok-ri, Haemi-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea, 16.vi.2011, JK Kim” [white printed label], “Holotype / Symmorphus / truncatoclypeus / Kim / sp. n. / 2017” [red handwritten label]. Diagnosis (female only). This new species is easily separated from other congeners from NE Asia by the clypeus with the apical margin much broadly truncated and toothless (Fig. 9A). Also, this character state is unique in the Symmorphus murarius group which was the major one of three informally named species group in the nominate subgenus by Cumming (1989).

Description. Female. Structure. Body length 12.0– 12.6 mm, forewing length 9.4–9.8 mm. Inter-antennal area broadly tuberculate, but not forming a median longitudinal carina. Cephalic fovea hardly excavated; pit about half diameter of mid ocellus; cephalic foveal carina absent or faint. Clypeus broader than long, ca. 1.4 × as broad as long; truncated apical margin slightly longer than inter-antennal distance (Fig. 9A). Occipital carina raised high and complete. Pronotal carina well developed throughout, but faint on dorsomedial portion of pronotum. Humeral angle not produced, almost right-angled in dorsal view. Notaulices well developed throughout, but occasionally evanescent in its basal quarter. Epicnemial carina well developed in ventral mesepisternum. Mesoscutellum medially furrowed and filled with dense large punctures. Propodeal superior shelf medially ca. 2.0 × trans-scutal sulcus length; median propodeal pit roundish in shape, basally with a short dull median ridge at bottom. Propodeal submedian carina not distinctly developed, irregularly doubled in upper portion of propodeal posterior face, and lost in its lower lateral portion. Propodeal valvula completely merging into submarginal carina, and slightly produced posteriorly. Transverse carina of metasomal tergum 1 somewhat strongly raised both in dorsal and lateral sides of tergum, somewhat broadly incised medially. Postcarinal area of metasomal tergum 1 ca. 0.63 × as long as broad at apex; lateral margins slightly divergent posteriad in dorsal view, width at transverse carina ca. 0.89 apical width; medially not furrowed but broadly and shallowly impressed, with sulcus in apicalthird of postcarinal area. In holotype, basal carina of metasomal sternum 1 not discernable, but U-shaped in paratype as in Fig. 2D; outside of lateral oblique ridges densely foveate, median longitudinal ridge and lateral oblique ridge well developed, and area between them with oblique longitudinal carinae.

Sculpture. Frons and vertex densely punctate-puncticulate. Gena punctate-puncticulate, with major punctures moderate in density and irregular in distribution. Clypeus punctate-puncticulate, with major punctures moderate and irregularly set; median portion of apicalthird somewhat polished, sparsely punctate and longitudinally dully ridged, and imbricate near apical margin. Anterior vertical face of pronotum obscurely imbricate-punctulate, with moderate to dense punctate size punctures in upper submedian portion; pronotal dorsum and upper half of lateral side foveate-reticulate, and lower half of lateral side longitudinally carinate-foveate. Mesoscutum punctatepunctulate. Epicnemium punctulate; anterior half of dorsal mesepisternum punctulate, posterior half sparsely punctate; anterior flat face of ventral mesepisternum punctate-puncticulate (major punctures moderate), posterior sloping face vertically striate-strigulate, and transition between flat and sloping face moderately to densely punctate (Fig. 2B). Mesepimeron punctate-puncticulate, with major punctures moderate to dense. Mesoscutellum punctate-puncticulate, with major punctures moderate (in posterior portion) to dense (in anterior portion). Entire dorsum and upper half of posterior vertical face of metanotum foveate-reticulate, lower half of posterior vertical face imbricate. Metapleuron primarily striate, with sparse punctures in its lower portion. Propodeal dorsum foveate-reticulate; lateral side, except for areolate upper and posterior marginal portions, primarily rugose with moderate flattened foveae in posterior half; posterior face primarily rugose, with areola or flattened foveae in upper marginal portion. Precarinal area of metasomal tergum 1 punctate-punctulate, with major punctures very shallow and moderate to dense; postcarinal area foveate-reticulate, foveae densest medially and moderate submedially and dense laterally. Metasomal tergum 2 punctate-puncticulate, with major punctures very shallow and sparse.

Coloration. Body largely black, following parts/markings deep yellow: inter-antennal spot, tiny postocular dot, paired small spots on clypeal base, paired large spots on pronotal dorsum, small spot on dorsal mesepisternum, paired spots on mesoscutellum, all femora apically, outer face of fore tibia, mid and hind tibiae basally, apical bands on metasomal terga 1–2, tergum 4 and sternum 2. Lower faces of apical three flagellomeres orange; lower faces of flagellomeres 3–7 somewhat ferruginous. Large portion of tarsomeres brownish yellow to brownish.

Male. Unknown.

Etymology. Named after characteristic clypeus with truncated apical margin.
