Gerbillinae J.E.Gray 1825

Description

Subfamily Gerbillinae

This subfamily includes species of the genera Gerbillus, Meriones, Psammomys, and Sekeetamys. This subfamily constitutes the largest group of rodents occurring in Jordan with a total of 11 species. It includes small to mediumsized rodents adapted for arid and steppe areas. Teeth and soles morphology varies greatly (Figure 33) according to food resources and habitat (Wilson & Reeder, 2005).
