Records on halacarid mites: T. calix was observed on halacarid mites by Gelmboldt & Dovgal (2005). It has been found on the idiosoma and legs of Halacarellus sp. in Odessa Gulf of the Black Sea near the biological station of the Odessa National University in sediment at a depth of 5–20 cm.

Bartsch (1998) collected Halacarellus discretus Bartsch from the shallow water sandy deposits of a recreation area near Odessa (Ukraine, Black Sea); of 20 adults studied all were infested, with 8-62 suctorians (Thecacineta sp.) per mite. Bartsch & Dovgal (2010) commented that these suctorians are assumed to be conspecific with Thecacineta calix.

Dovgal et al. (2008a) identified T. calix on the idiosoma of Halacarellus micropectinatus Bartsch and on C. fabricii (Lohmann) based on the figures given by Bartsch (1989, Fig. 19; 1998, Fig. 90) from the Black Sea near Sevastopol and North Sea, respectively. Dovgal et al. (2008a) also identified T. calix from the northwest Pacific Ocean off Hokkaido, Japan, on the posterodorsal plate of Actacarus octosetus Аbé, 1997 based on figures – 5G, F given in Аbé (1997).

Chatterjee et al. (2012) reported this species from Hi -Ping-Dao, north east of Taiwan on Agauopsis sp. among intertidal algae in exposed rocky shore.

Bartsch (2015b) reported that Thalassarachna litoralis Bartsch, 1976 known from Brittany, France was infested with epibionts, probably with T. calix.

Other Hosts: Besides infesting halacarid mites, T. calix was also reported as an epibiont on several species of nematodes, copepods etc. from the Аtlantic, Pacific, Аntarctic and Indian Oceans (Schröder 1907; Steiner & Heppli 1926; Schulz 1931; Steiner 1931; Аllgen 1949, 1952, 1955; Matthes 1956; Fernandez-Leborans & Tato- Porto 2000; Susetiono 2006; Jankowski 2007; Ingole et al. 2010; Chatterjee et al. 2014a, b, Аnsari et al. 2017). This species is known from intertidal to deep-sea areas.

Remarks: This species has been reported from a freshwater system in Thailand (Charubhun & Charubhun, 2000); however, this record needs confirmation because T. calix is otherwise only known from marine environments (Chatterjee et al. 2012, 2014b).
