Description

Genus Carvalhoa Koçak & Kemal, 2013: 4.

Replacement name for Sphaerops Philippi, 1865: 646, not Sphaerops Gray, 1845: 183 (Reptilia). Type species: Sphaerops appendiculatus Philippi, 1865.

= Sphaerops Philippi, 1865: 646 (not Gray, 1845). Type species: Sphaerops appendiculatus Philippi, 1865; by monotypy. Refs.: Edwards, 1930: 188 (in key); Winterton et al., 2007: 822 (phylogeny); Winterton & Gillung, 2012: 4 (in key); Schlinger et al., 2013: 62 (in key), 64 (diagnosis, key to species).

Sphaerops appendiculata Philippi, 1865: 646 –647, pl. XXV fig. 27. Holotype: Santiago (no type specimen deposited in MNNC). Dist.: Coquimbo (Choapa: Illapel; Limarí: Ovalle at río Limarí); Valparaíso (Quillota: La Campana National Park – Palma(s) de Ocoa); Metropolitana (Cordillera: El Canelo, La Obra; Santiago: 3 km N El Arrayán—reared from Sequestriidae (mispelling), Ñuñoa, Parque Puente Ñilhue, Providencia, Santiago); Biobío (Ñuble: Cobquecura, Las Trancas, Piedras Comadres).

Dist: Atacama (Copiapó: 125 km SE Copiapó—Fundo La Semilla, 119 km SE Copiapó— 2 km Puente La Semilla); Coquimbo (Limarí: Fray Jorge National Park—Quebrada Honda, El Mineral); Valparaíso (Quillota: Parque Nacional La Campana, Palmas de Ocoa).
