Description

Obereoides peruviensis Audureau & Santos-Silva, sp. nov.

(Figs. 1–4)

Description. Male. Integument mostly dark brown, almost black, especially on dark areas of elytra; scape-ball red-dish brown; frons gradually brown from antennal tubercles toward clypeus; anteclypeus yellowish brown; labrum yellowish brown close to anteclypeus, gradually reddish brown toward anterior margin; mouthparts mostly reddish brown, with palpi yellowish brown; anterior margin of prothorax, and posterior margin of pronotum reddish brown; scutellum reddish brown; elytral base with triangular yellowish-brown macula dorsally, more brownish close to suture; elytra with large pale yellow macula centrally, from epipleura to suture; profemora reddish brown dorsally and laterally, except dark brown posterior half of dorsal surface and apex of sides, yellowish brown ventrally (more light reddish-brown depending on light intensity); mesofemora dark brown dorsally and laterally, dark reddish brown ventrally; metafemora dark reddish brown basally, dark brown on remaining surface; pro- and mesotibiae brown on basal half, gradually reddish brown toward apex; metatibiae dark brown on basal 2/3, brown on distal third; tarsi yellowish brown; abdominal ventrite III brown posterocentrally, except dark brown distal area; abdominal ventrite IV reddish brown centrally, except dark brown distal area; abdominal ventrite V yellowish brown, except brown sides.

Head. Frons finely, sparsely punctate; with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument, gradually lighter toward clypeus; vertex and area behind eyes finely, moderately abundantly punctate, except smooth area close to prothorax; with brown pubescence not obscuring integument, and yellowish-white pubescence interspersed, more abundantly behind lower eye lobes. Genae with yellowish-white pubescence, partially obscuring integument, with a few long, erect brownish setae interspersed. Antennal tubercles with dark brown pubescence not obscuring integument. Postclypeus with pale yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument, with a few long, erect brownish setae on sides of wide central area. Labrum nearly glabrous posteriorly, with long, decumbent, abundant pale yellow and yellow setae on anterior half. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.29 times length of scape; in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 0.54 times length of scape. Antennae 1.9 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex near apex of antennomere VII. Ventral surface of pedicel and antennomeres III–VIII with long, erect, thick dark setae, gradually shorter and sparser toward VIII. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.74; pedicel = 0.12; IV = 1.51; V = 1.31; VI = 1.24; VII = 0.95; VIII = 0.81; IX = 0.71; X = 0.63; XI = 0.54.

Thorax. Prothorax slightly narrower anteriorly than posteriorly, with distinct constriction in anterior half. Pronotum coarsely, moderately sparsely punctate; with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, slightly yellower toward central area. Sides of prothorax with sculpturing as on pronotum, but slightly more abundant; with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument. Prosternum coarsely, moderately sparsely punctate; with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument. Prosternal process very narrow centrally, with sculpturing and pubescence as on prosternum. Ventral surface of meso- and metathorax with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, denser laterally. Scutellum with moderately sparse grayish-white pubescence. Elytra. Coarsely, moderately abundantly punctate (punctures partially aligned) on basal third, gradually finer, sparer toward apex; with very short, abundant grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument; apex obliquely, widely truncate.

Legs. Femora with grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, denser ventrally. Tibiae with grayish-white pubescence on basal 2/3, brownish on distal third (only ventrally in protibiae).

Abdomen. Ventrites with moderately abundant grayish-white pubescence, except glabrous distal area of I–IV; apex of ventrite V strongly concave centrally.

Dimensions (mm). Total length, 10.25; prothoracic length, 1.50; anterior prothoracic width, 1.25; posterior prothoracic width, 1.35; maximum prothoracic width, 1.45; humeral width, 1.90; elytral length, 7.60.

Type material. Holotype male from PERU, Pasco: Pozuzo (Oxapampa province), VII.2015, local collector (MZSP, formerly AACP).

Remarks. Obereoides peruviensis sp. nov. differs from all the other species of the genus by the elytra with distinct pale yellow band centrally.

Etymology. This new species is named for Peru, the country where the holotype was collected.
