The holotype is deposited in NMPC (ex coll. V. Balthasar):
HOLOTYPE (J): ‘Nova-Guinea / Irian / Tanahmerah / VI. 1964 [hw] // Onthophagus / irianus n. sp. / J Balthasar 66 [hw] Holotypus [p, ochreous label]’.
Current status. Valid species.
