Syndyas melanderi

Description

Syndyas melanderi nom. nov.

Lactistomyia polita Melander, 1928:26 (occupied Syndyas polita Loew, 1861); Smith, 1977:188 (catalogue).

The holotype of Lactistomyia polita Melander, 1928, only species of the genus referred outside of the Neotropical Region was examined. The study of the wing characters and legs revealed that is not congeneric with Lactistomyia and it is being transferred to Syndyas Loew.

The new combination, Syndyas polita (Melander, 1928), because of the transfer of this species for the genus Syndyas, resulted in a junior secondary homonym of Syndyas polita Loew, 1861 and in agreement with International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN, 2001) it should be rejected and replaced. Therefore, I propose the name Syndyas melanderi n. nov. in substitution to the Syndyas polita (Melander, 1928).

Distribution. Philippines (Luzon).

Type material: Holotype female (USNM): “Mt. Makiling Luzon, Baker ”; “ Type Lactistomyia polita Mel. ”; “A. L. Melander Collection 1961”. Condition of the type: good, not dissected.
