Revised diagnosis. Aedeagus with long asymmetrical median sclerite branching off in submedian region into several pointed projections, of which the longest protrudes from ostium between apical projections.

Redescription. Body of male (Fig. 1) convex, light to moderately dark brown, covered with light brown vestiture; BL 0.87–1.12 mm (mean 0.97 mm).

Head (Fig. 1, 7) broadest at large, strongly convex and moderately coarsely faceted eyes, HL 0.12–0.20 mm (mean 0.15 mm), HW 0.19–0.22 mm (mean 0.20 mm); tempora in dorsal view barely discernible; vertex weakly convex; frons posteriorly confluent with vertex, flattened and with small impression in front of eyes, in some specimens impression sharply demarcated from surrounding areas, in others margins of impression diffused or impression composed of several large punctures touching one another; supraantennal tubercles feebly marked, anterior margin of frons subtriangular. Frons outside anteromedian impression and vertex with several variously distinct punctures showing variation in size, depth and number among studied specimens, usually a pair or two pairs of distinct punctures are located submedially on vertex and separated by space subequal to that between mesal margins of supraantennal tubercles; setae short, sparse and suberect. Antennae slender, AnL 0.40–0.55 mm (mean 0.46 mm); antennomeres I–III distinctly elongate, IV–V slightly elongate, VI–VII about as long as broad, VIII–X transverse, XI about 1.3× as long as broad, with rounded apex.

Pronotum (Fig. 1) elongate, broadest in anterior third or at base (slightly variable among studied specimens, in some pronotum equally broad at anterior third and at base); PL 0.21–0.27 mm (mean 0.23 mm), PW 0.19–0.24 mm (mean 0.20 mm). Anterior margin and lateral margins in anterior third rounded; sides distinctly concave behind middle; posterior margin arcuate; ante-basal transverse groove distinct and arcuate, at each side connected to shallow lateral pit. Punctures on pronotal disc inconspicuous, fine and sparse; setae sparse, long and suberect to erect.

Elytra (Fig. 1) distinctly more convex than pronotum, oval, broadest slightly anterior to middle; EL 0.52–0.67 mm (mean 0.58 mm), EW 0.37–0.47 mm (mean 0.42 mm), EI 1.31–1.53; humeral calli distinct and elongate, basal impression on each elytron short but distinct; apices separately rounded. Punctures on elytra more distinct than those on pronotum, small, dense and with diffused margins; setae sparse, much longer than those on pronotum, erect. Hind wings well developed.

Legs (Fig. 1) long and slender; all tibiae nearly straight.

Aedeagus (Figs. 10–15) relatively stout and with lightly sclerotized, thin walls; AeL 0.14–0.25 mm (mean 0.17 mm); apical projections elongate and projecting from median lobe to various extent; endophallus with long asymmetrical median sclerite extending from sub-basal to subapical region and branching off in submedian area into several elongate and pointed projections. Parameres slender, each with two long apical setae. The aedeagus shows some variability in the shape of apical projections and the internal sclerites, most extremal examples are illustrated in Figs. 10–15; the thin-walled median lobe is prone to distortions and especially the long median internal sclerite can rotate and assume various positions, causing the lateral projections to appear different depending on preparation.

Female. Externally indistinguishable from male, except usually a group of large punctures instead of frontal impression (but there are also males with such punctures). BL 0.92–1.15 mm (mean 1.00 mm); HL 0.15–0.22 mm (mean 0.17 mm), HW 0.19–0.24 mm (mean 0.20 mm), AnL 0.40–0.52 mm (mean 0.45 mm); PL 0.22–0.30 mm (mean 0.25 mm), PW 0.20–0.25 mm (mean 0.21 mm); EL 0.55–0.65 mm (mean 0.59 mm), EW 0.40–0.50 mm (mean 0.43 mm), EI 1.20–1.45.

Distribution. Northern part of North Island, New Zealand, including Mokohinau Islands (Fig. 24).

Remarks. Three specimens identified apparently by G. Kuschel and labeled as females turned out to be males. In this species females can be distinguished from males only on the basis of genitalia, so it is unclear how Kuschel made the gender (mis)identifications.
