Paratypes: Brazil. Tocantins: Gurupi, 01/06/1988. K. Kishino (1♂, UFRG); Santa Catarina: Corupá, X. 1976, A. Maller (1♀, MNRJ); Rio Grande do Sul: Gramado, 09/XII/1990, J. Grazia (1♀, UFRG). Taquara, 03/IX/1989, L. Buckup, “em Azalea” (1♂, UFRG). Argentina. Corrientes: Santo Tomé, XI/1927 (1♀, UFRG).

Description. (Fig. 4 A) Body surface densely punctured; dorsal color light brown, darker ventrally. Head longer than wide; dorsally light brown, ventrally blackish; lateral margin of mandibular plates weakly concave. Antennal segment IV dorsally compressed; proportion of antennal segments: I>II<III>IV<V. Rostrum reaching the base of abdomen; proportion of rostral segments: I<II>III>IV. Pronotum flat, anterolateral margins slightly concave; anterolateral surface strongly deflected; projections near the anterolateral angles squared, truncated, not developed as a spine. Humeral angles emarginate, not developed. Cicatrices of pronotum clearly delimited by punctures. Trochanters and basal half of femora light brown, apex of femora and tibiae mottled in dark brown to black. Scutellum bearing 1+1 pale callus medial to the foveae. Abdomen ventrally black on disc with shallow punctures; lateral bands light brown, grossly dark punctured. Spiracles black surrounded by a black callus.

Male genitalia. (Figs. 4 B–E; 5 G–I) Pygophore quadrangular, posterolateral angles projected and acute. Cylindrical arms anteriorly tumid, with two dark triangular projections at outer margin. Phallus. Ventral movable processes of phalotheca curved, twice longer than the median processes of phalotheca. Dorsolateral processes of conjunctiva projecting dorsally, acute at apex, not surpassing posterior limit of vesica.

Female genitalia (Figs. 6 C; 7 B). Gonocoxites 8 with straight sutural margin, not overlapping at base; posterior margin entire and slightly convex; lateral margins of laterotergites 8 rounded. Gonocoxites 9 trapezoidal, wider than long, anterior angle acute. Laterotergites 9 acute but not forming a spine at apex; exceeding the band that unites laterotergites 8 dorsally. Lateral projections of laterotergites 9 short, reaching midline of secondary thickenings of gonapophyses 9. Ring sclerites oval; 1+1 secondary thickenings of the gonapophyses 9 subtriangular, adjacent to ring sclerites. Median tube of vesicular area of ductus receptaculi enlarged proximally. Anterior annular flange conspicuous, anteriorly directed; pars intermedialis longer than wide, wider near posterior annular flange, constricted distally; posterior annular flange transversal to duct; capsula seminalis hemispherical, lacking processes.

Comments. G. magnocephala is similar to G. adroguensis in the general size and body shape, but the new species can be distinguished by a relatively larger head, and pronotum somewhat flat, while convex in G. adroguensis. Also, both species can be distinguished by the apex of laterotergites 9, acute in G. magnocephala and rounded in G. adroguensis.
