Description
Bombus quadricolor (Lepeletier, 1832)
Species distributed in continental Europe, Caucasus and other Asian mountains like Elburs, Altai and Buryatia. In the Iberian Peninsula it appears sparingly and was found in the 1980s in the Pyrenees, between 1100 and 2000 m of altitude and in the Cantabrian Range and the Sierra de los Ancares (Ornosa & Ortiz-Sánchez 2004). It is a social parasite of B. soroeensis.
It is considered as Least Concern in the IUCN European Red List (Rasmont et al. 2015).
At present, it has been collected in the Pyrenees in meadows, in beech forest and forestal and supraforestal grassland of Pinus uncinata between 1310 and 2100 m (Fig. 7), on Buglossoides arvensis (L.) I. M. Johns., Centaurea scabiosa L., Gentiana lutea L., Lotus corniculatus L. Trifolium repens L. and Trifolium pratense L.
According to current data, this species exhibits greater orophilous tendency (Fig. 7) in the Pyrenees, where it is declining and it seems to be threatened (Table 2).
