Description
Chaetodon pelewensis Kner 1868 —Dot and dash butterflyfish
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Manne Island, Kavieng District, 3– 25 m depth, St. KR 42, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: New South Wales (Australia) and New Guinea to French Polynesia and Easter Island. Found in seaward coral reefs, 8–30 m depth. Marine.
