Description

Carangoides ferdau (Forsskål in Niebuhr, 1775) —Blue trevally

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Drei Inseln Harbour, New Hanover as Ferdauia laticaudis by Munro (1958: 183). Specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey. NTUM 12142 (1 specimen, St. CP 4481-4, southeast of Manne Island).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes eastward to Hawaiian and Line islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Norfolk Island and Rapa. Found in coastal waters over sand bottom near coral reefs, 1–60 m depth. Marine.
